Rebuild Zone Tour co-host
Michael Flatman is the Marketing Services Manager for the Christchurch City Council. Marketing Services provides the organisation with strategic marketing advice and integrates the Council's marketing strategy across the organisation. The team also co-ordinates behavioural and social marketing activities and looks after brand development and implementation.
Following the February 2011 earthquake and the subsequent passing of the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Act in April 2011 Michael was seconded to lead the Communications, Marketing and Consultation team on the development of the recovery plan for the Central City. Amongst other things Michael's team developed and implemented the "Share an Idea" and "Tell Us What You Think" consultation strategies for engaging the community in the development of the draft Central City Plan.
Rebuild Zone Tour
As you tour the red zone Michael will reflect on what has happened since the February 2011 earthquake, exploring achievements and discussing how the Christchurch City Council continues to engage with the community. Touching briefly on the role of Marketing within the Emergency Operations Centre, Michael will relay his experiences working on the development of the draft Central City Plan and Share an Idea campaign. He will also reflect on managing staff that are living through thevarious challenges of post-earthquake Christchurch.
The Council is working on a wide variety of projects to bring life back to the Central City so residents begin to be involved with and feel good about their Central City. Michael will discuss how the Council is engaging with the community and communicating Council's response to the earthquakes via a number of projects such as the Facilities Rebuild, Events and Transitional City.
