Kate Pierson is a self-described adrenalin junkie and has an ongoing love affair with extreme sports - hence her gravitation towards earthquake communications.
Her focus for the past 2.5 years has been to stay as well acquainted with sanity as is feasibly possible, while working to introduce comprehensive, relative, timely and accurate communications into the Waimakariri District Council’s earthquake recovery effort. Kate’s the rebel with a cause and has a dog with a bone approach towards tackling complex EQR projects. She was born in the Year of the challenge loving Tiger, which has paid dividends when it comes to issue resolution because no stone is left unturned.
Kate’s a big time lover of keeping it simple, which everyone - except our policy counterparts - knows is always best.
She’s also single and a fan of lavish gifts. Just saying.

After what seemed several lifetimes of commercial radio debauchery in Hawkes Bay, Hamilton and Christchurch, with a dash of
Christchurch newspaper management thrown in for balance, Rory Christie’s wife and liver told him it was time to get a ‘real job’ so, in preparation for the ‘real world’ he ambled off to Uni, gained several letters after his name and stumbled into the world of tourism as a PR/Media Executive.
Six years later he became a council worker as Communications Advisor for the Waimakariri District Council. “With the help of a couple of Acts of God in September 2010 and February 2011, what started out as an interesting way to fill in my day, suddenly became a
monumental and overwhelming communications challenge”. So he hired an earthquake communications superstar and sat back and took the kudos – the rest, as they say, is herstory.
