Lee Halstead
Christchurch City Council
Lee is currently a Public Affairs Manager at Christchurch City Council and was the Public Information Manager (Civil Defence) when the 22 February 2011 earthquake hit.
She has worked in crisis management situations for more than 10 years, from her days in London working on flooding events for Thames Water, through to her time at a NZ Regional Council dealing with flooding, lahar and weather emergencies, and more recently as a Public Information Manager during the earthquakes.
Lee originally trained as an environmental scientist and found her way as a graduate engineer into the field of Communications and Public Affairs –when she discovered that someone had to tell the public what the engineers were up to!
Crisis Management Workshop
Lee will run a crisis management workshop for a limited number of attendees, on:
- The first 12 hours of an emergency - what happens when there is no power, phones are intermittent and media turn up on your doorstep
- Trying a bit of everything and what worked at the time, with an emphasis on Social media
- What we've learnt about communicating in an emergency - some useful take away points for preparedness
