Katherine Trought
PRINZ Fellow & Conference Facilitator, Environment Canterbury
Katherine’s life in communications spans stints in the energy, science and local government sectors, with a few years as journalist and consultant thrown in for good measure.
As Director, Communications for Environment Canterbury, she leads a team dedicated to informing and guiding community discussions through such things as how water should be managed in Canterbury, the relationships between land use and environmental quality, and why poor air quality is not a good thing.
The public debate around genetic modification was the challenge in her previous role at Crop & Food Research, and in the 1990s it was energy sector reforms, during her time at Southpower/Orion, which kept her busy.
Katherine started her working life with an Honours degree in Zoology, but quickly moved on to a journalism qualification from Canterbury University and later a Masters in Business Studies from Massey. She is an accredited member and Fellow of PRINZ.
