Debbie Barber
General Manager Stakeholder Engagement and Reputation, Earthquake Commission (EQC)
Creating enduring relationships from ground zero
Debbie will share her recent experience at EQC about creating enduring relationships from ground zero off the back of the
Commission’s response to privacy breaches.
Words have been a passion for Debbie’s entire career. She started her working life as a cadet reporter on a community
newspaper and then moved to daily print journalism in Wellington and the Waikato.
In her late 20s she left journalism to join the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet as a communications advisor because she wanted to be a participant in decision-making, rather than an observer. She has worked at a range of crown agencies since in permanent and contracting roles.
Debbie enjoys building reputation and brand through good communications. She is an APR and has tertiary qualifications in public
relations, planning and leadership.
